Afternoon Tea at Flemings Hotel
1st September 2015
Being an event manager I always tend to overplan my birthday, but for my birthday in 2014 I decided just to keep it simple with a weekend in London with a few close friends. On the Sunday 12th October 2014 I visited Flemings Hotel with two of my best friends to enjoy a chocolate afternoon tea.
The Flemings Hotel is located on 7-12 Half Moon Street, Mayfair, London, W1J 7BH. Once again I will just be focussing on the actual meal that I experienced at the hotel rather than the hotel itself as I didn't get to experience the whole hotel and its grounds but from what I saw and the pictures on the website it looks like a very grande place.

This was my first time experiencing afternoon tea so I was quite excited about what to expect. I had seen the deal for a Chocolate afternoon tea for 2 for £30 on Travelzoo (This was before Groupon become my favourite..) and afternoon tea for 1 for £20. The Hotel itsself was fairly easy to find as its on a side street and it is pretty big so you can hardly miss it. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the reception who took my luggage from me (as I was coming from the hotel I was staying in the night before) and they then directed downstairs towards the lounge area to be seated in The Grill Restaurant.
Once seated, they gave us a menu to show what we would be having for afternoon tea and gave us a choice from three fresh tea flavours such as: chocolate, caramel and regular tea. As there was three of us we just decided to grab a flavour each and taste eachothers. When the tea arrived however, they weren't labelled or noted which one was which and we couldn't actually taste the difference between the three so to be honest that was a waste of time. As usually I documented the whole thing on my phone and on snapchat.

The menu suggested that we would have:
- a selection of freshly made sandwiches: cucumber cream cheese and smoked semi dry tomato, smoked salmon with lemon and dill butter, egg mayonaise and watercress and wiltshire ham with wholegrain mustard cream
- a selection of homemade chocolate scones served with clotted cream and strawberry jam
- chefs selection of chocolate petit fours (of which we had mini three layered chocolate mousee, mini chocolate eclairs, mini brownies, mini chocolate truffles, and mini chocolate cakes - chocolate overload)
All could be enjoyed with a glass of Jacquart Rosé champagne, which we eventually had to ask for because they didn't bring it out to us with the rest of the tea and food.

The sandwiches were as expected, I tried one of each except the salmon as I'm not too keen on salmon - I find it too fishy as weird as that sounds. Also the sandwiches that you may be able to see from the pictures...The browns were not chocolate bread from what I thought oh no, they were some healthy wheat bread or something like that but it didn't taste right at all so those got left behind aswell. Other than that though the rest of the treats were very tasty, the brownies were soft and moist, the mousse was delicious. The chocolate scones were very heavy and filling so I think I only managed to have half of one. I must admit it was abit of a chocolate overload, there is only so much chocolate that you can eat it one go but I was grateful for my first experience of afternoon tea with two of my best friends.

Overall, the decor of the lounge was very elegantly decorated in a modern style, it was quiet and calm atmosphere. The staff weren't that accomodating as we had to keep asking for stuff and there was no friendliness or smile, it was like they were just there to do their job and go home. Fair play to them, I didn't let it affect my mood and they are lucky the food made up for it so I would come here again, maybe to try a different afternoon tea style and not the chocolate one again.
