The Plough Harborne
Happy New Everyone! So a new year deserves a new post right? Well on one of my many flying visits through Birmingham I decided to visit The Plough Harborne restaurant with my friends Mittie and Anisha which is located on 1 High St, Harborne, Birmingham, B17 9NT. The restaurant has a pub like feel to it with its mis-match furniture and wooden benches and tables for larger groups.
Their food can be described as "homemade and comforting" and take their inspiration from many European countries and borrow some classic ideas from North America while not forgetting thier British roots. Which I believe isnn't too far from the truth. Their menu has a wide range to choose from so I was spoilt for choice. In the end I opted for homemade baked beans w/ sourdough toast.

The overall taste of the dish was nice however the food was cold. I don't like recieving my food cold, it's another thing if it arrives and its hot and then it gets cold over time like food usually does but it came out luke warm like it had been left on the side and forgotton about. Most circumstances I would have sent it back and/or asked for it to be re-heated but I was in a rush that day so just gulped it down so I could leave so if I come back again and the food is cold and I have time I will make it known haha.
Mittie had opted for short-stack of pancakes w/ cripsy bacon, blueberries + maple syrup. This was going to be my original dish but I'm not that keen on blueberries on their own like that (they taste better in smoothies).

The pacakes themselves tasted nice - well the bit that I tried anyway lol. The only downfall that Mittie said was the fact that there was too much maple syrup poured over it so it made it too sweet and soggy. If they had just had it in small jug on the side so you were able to pour out what you desired then this would have been better. However, as I said the flavour was there and if you have a sweet tooth then this dish could be for you.
Anisha then opted for the house breakfast - bacon, sausage, egg, hash brown, beans, tomato, mushroom + toast.

Usually I go for the standard breakfast dish but I was particularly hungry that morning so it just seemed like too much food for me. It did look delicious however and Anisha said that it tasted nice however her beans were cold also so maybe it was just the beans that were cold so I pulled the short straw there.
The whole ambiance of the restaurant was lovely though, it did feel very warm and homely considering it was a wet and miserable day in the UK as usual. I would love to come here again and try another dish - maybe something that doesn't have beans in it!
