Browns Restaurant

I've been to a Browns Restaurant before but I'm posting this one as it was a Valentin'es special menu that I wanted to share! There are many Browns Restaurants dotted around England but this paticular one that I went to was in Bull Ring, Birmingham.

Dinner was booked for 6 that evening because as you can imagine they were fully booked for the rest of the night. On arrival we were seated next to the window on a candlelight table. Strawberry daiquiri cocktails were ordered alongside a basket of bread while we waited for starters to arrive.

For starters I chose to have Devilled mushrooms on toasted brioche and paprika straw fries and Daniel chose to have Carpaccio of smoked duck with fried pickles and cherry vinaigretteBoth of these dishes were lovely choices. I have always been a fan of mushrooms so was very keen to try this. Duck dishes can be very hit and miss but this was most definately a hit and the cherry vinaigrette enhanced the flavours more.

Next up was the main courses, I chose to have Confit of Gressingham duck served with a smoked duck croquette and rhubarb & grenadine puree and red wine puree and Daniel chose to have Whole poussin wrapped in smoked bacon with red wine & thyme pearl barley risotto with charrd spring onions

Once again both of the dishes were lovely. As I don't eat red meat anymore duck was the safest option for me to have and on a plus side it was served with one of my favourite vegetables - broccoli! I only tried the risotto part of the other dish as the chicken had bacon wrapped around it but the risotto was well seasoned and tasted lovely.

Then on to the dessert to finish of a lovely evening where we both chose the same dish: Trio of chocolate - warm chocolate fondant, white chocolate pot, chocolate ice cream and hazelnut praline.

And yes it was a chocolate overload! Tasty but only in small quantities. I mean, yeah of course I do have a sweet tooth but there is only so much a girl can take before I keel over into a diabetic coma. I know my limits and I reached it at the dessert after I ate as much as my stomach would let me.

Overall, my experience at Browns was delightful as always. The food came out pretty quick but this may be down to it being a set menu so everything is prepared, ready and waiting to choose a dish. The staff were lovely and friendly so it made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable.
