Hair Care

Me and my hair have always had a love-hate relationship. I've had it realxed, natural, braided, everything you name it and I'm still not sure if I have found something that I am comfortable with but most of the time you will likely see me wearing braids.

I have finally got a routine for my hair that I mainly stick with so I thought I would share with you some of the products that I use and what works well.

ORS OLIVE OIL CREAMY ALOE SHAMPOO

I use this shampoo religiously on my wash days and it moisturises and neutralizes my hair leaving it soft and tangle free. This shampoo includes Olive Oil, Aloe Vera, Panthenol and Lecithin which all help to protect your hair and scalp while washing your hair. I buy this at my local hair shop in Northampton town centre so I'm sure you will be able to find it easily.

How to use: Wet the hair thoroughly and apply a generous amount of shampoo to work a lather. Once completed, rinse hair and make sure all of the shampoo is out (Extra step- repeat lather and leave for 5 minutes and then rinse out again). Towel dry until damp to complete step two.

STEP TWO:

ORS OLIVE OIL REPLENISHING CONDITIONER

I got my replenishing pak from an old relaxer kit that I had so I just use it sparingly but you can purchase the full bottle from most hair stores. Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner is a deep-penetrating conditioner that contains olive oil, marine proteins, and sweet orange oil. It helps your hair restore moisture to the scalp and sheen to the hair. It has a lovely sweet orange smell to it which I think is one of the many reasons I became addicted to it. Not only leaves your hair feeling smooth and silky but smells wonderful too. What more could you ask from your conditioner?

How to use: Apply a generous amount to the palm of the hand and rub together. Apply to your hair and massage from scalp to the ends of your hair, you can use your hands or a wide tooth comb to distribute it throughout. Then place a plastic cap over your head and leave for 20 minutes (with heat) or 45 minutes (without heat). Rinse you hair with warm water and proceed with your normal styling process.

STEP THREE:

VITALE OLIVE OIL (ANTI BREAKAGE) LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER

Once again I got this mini bottle from a Vitale relaxer that I bought previously but because you do not need to use a lot it has lasted me quite a while. It is a really runny/watery consistancy so you only need a few drops to do the job. However you can buy the bigger version as normal for your local hair stores. Unlike the previous conditioner, as self explained in the name you leave this in your hair and don't wash it out. It acts as a special protection from outside elements whether you're leaving your hair to dry naturally or blowdrying it. It contains natural ingredients specially formulated to detangle, seal in moisture and protect hair from split ends and breakage. Combines natural ingredients to strengthen and increase elasticity of your hair when blow drying.

How to use: Pour a small amount into the palm of your hand a rub quickly so it doesn't drip everywhere (alternatively you can pour it straight onto your hair). Massage the conditioner throughout your hair all the way to the tips until throughly rubbed it. Comb through with wide tooth comb and continue to style hair as normal.

STEP FOUR:

ORS OLIVE OIL INCREDIBLY RICH MOISTURISING HAIR LOTION

I couldn't tell you how long I have been using this moisturising lotion! I'm sure my mum used to use this in my hair as a child alongside other products but without fail this has been in my life and for a very good reason. The lotion is made from blending Olive Oil into a rich moisturizing lotion which conditions and protects the hair from blow dryers and straighteners etc as it helps restore the hair’s natural moisture balance. I do not find it greasy or sticky but it still leaves a lovely sheen to the hair.

How to use: Apply a small amount to hands, rub together and massage through hair either before you blowdry your hair or after to restore the moisture. Also apply to the scalp and massage to moisturise the hair and scalp and then style as usual.

STEP FIVE:

ARGAN OIL HEAT DEFENCE LEAVE IN SPRAY

I tend to only use this spray when my hair is relaxed as my hair is more delicate then I try and spray it with this heat defence before blow drying or straightening my hair. This spray has been formulated to ensure that it defends your hair against any damaged cause by any heat styling methods. The plus side of it as it contains argan oil it helps to restore the moisture than can be lost due to heat damage and still leave your hair feeling silky and smooth. I was even lucky enough to find it in my local pound store, so it won't even break the bank and you can stock up on it!

How to use: Hold the bottle a few inches away from hair and spray about 2-3 times around the hair (more or less depending on length and thickness of hair as it can be greasy if you use too much). Comb or brush through hair and blow dry or straighten your hair as normal.

STEP SIX:

ORS OLIVE OIL NOURISHING SHEEN SPRAY

I use this sheen spray after my hair has been styled to give my hair a lovely glow and shine and moisturise my roots. I find this spray really good because its not heavy so doesn't weigh down your hair but I try not to use too much cause it can make your hair greasy and no one likes leaving grease stains on the back of sofas. The spray contains Vitamin E, Olive Oil and herbal extracts which is suitable for all hair types. I usually use this when having braids as it easily moisturises my scalp.

How to use: Hold the can a few inches away from your hair and spray lightly all around your hair. Use daily for a lovely shine and use before blow drying hair for smoother silkier hair.

Overall

This is the usual routine that I stick to with my hair routine as I find it works well for my hair and hair type. Sometimes I may takeaway a few products or even try some new ones to see which work the best or even to give my hair a break from the same old routine. Finding the best hair routine is all about trial and error before you find something that works for you. However, if you have any questions, queries or any suggestions then please do let me know.

Enjoy!
