Horseshoe Restaurant
I saw this restaurant being advertised on Groupon and the food and interior looked nice so I thought I would try and see what it was really like. The restaurant is based on the outskirts of Birmingham (1214 Stratford Rd, Birmingham B28 9BH). There is free parking on their grounds so it was easy for me to drive there. My table was booked for 8pm so it was quite busy by the time we arrived.
On arrival we were taken to our seats which was decorated with a flower and candle. They gave us some time to look at the menu and then order our drinks.

For starters I had the lightly battered tiger prawns served with a spicy a spicy tomato salsa which I am usually a huge fan of, the prawns were nice but there was nothing much to them. It was the salsa that gave the dish the kick it needed.
Daniel had the chicken satay on a bed of mixed leaves served with peanut sauce this dish was okay, the chicken was nicely cooked but it didn't have much flavour/seasoning - relied on the peanut sauce to stop it from being dry.

For my main course I had spincah and ricotta ravioli served with cherry and tomato sauce, rocket and parmesan shavings. This dish was really nice and I added chicken to the dish just for more substance. It was nicely seasoned and cooked and the salad and parmasen cheese complemented the whole dish.
Daniel had the brasied lamb shank served with mash potatoes, roasted cherry tomatoes and gravy. I didn't eat any of this dish due to it being red meat but Daniel said this dish was absolutely delicious. The meat fell right of the bone and was lovely and tender!

Lastely for my dessert I had New York cheesecake with raspberry compote. This was realy nice, the cheesecake was lovely and creamy and the raspberry compote made everything taste that little bit sweeter so I was verry happy with my choice.
Daniel had the homemade apple crumble with custard. The apple crumble itself was okay, good apple to crumble ration the only problem was there wasn't enough custard given to compliment the amount of apple crumble but other than that it was fine.
Overall, my experience at the Horseshoe restaurant was a disappointing one. The food was well presented but the flavour on some of the dishes could have been enhanced more. However, the part that let the whole experience dow was the amount of time we had to wait for each dish. There was at least an hour wait between each course which was just ridiculously long. It even got the point where our desserts where given to another table so we had to wait even longer for ours. We brought this to the attention to one of the waitresses but all they could do was apologise. So it took us 3 hours to eat a three course meal that was just mediocre. Which was a shame as the restaurant itself is lovely and the dishes all do have the potential of being wonderful. The staff were friendly but they just need to work on their time keeping.
