Chocolate Braid

This recipe was originally found on Pinterest and BuzzFeed (on Snapchat) and I was quite amazed at how easy it looked to make. So I put it to the test and tried out the recipe with my friend Stacey to see how it would really turned out. I was quite impressed with the way it turned out so thought I would show you all the recipe and the method I used.

Obviously if you're not too keen on some of the ingredients used you can adapt to to your own style (which I did) and experiment with new ideas. Don't forget to tag the post so I can see :)

INGREDIENTS

(Prep: 10 mins - Cook: 25 mins - Makes: 1 great chocolate braid dessert to share)

- A bar of your favourite chocolate (I used dairy milk)

- Pre made puff pastry roll (You can make this from scratch if you prefer)

- 1 egg (or milk to glaze pastry)

- Ice cream to serve (I used vanilla)

- 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar (Peacon/Almond alternative)

- Cocoa powder (added extra)

- Icing sugar to decorate (optional)

METHOD

1. Pre-heat oven to 200°c. Unroll the pre-made puff pastry dough onto the worksurface and place your chocolate bar in the middle of the pastry.

2. Cut/slice slanted lines about 1 inch apart on either side of the chocolate on the pastry (refer to picture)

3. Fold the top part of the pastry over the top of the chocolate bar then take one piece from each side of the pastry to cover the chocolate bar as though doing a braid (fold bottom part of pastry over the bottom of the chocolate bar before completintg the braid)

4. Use the egg (or milk) to brush over the pastry covering all of the top and sides. Sprinkle the sugar and cocoa powder ontop (or alternatively use any nuts or toppings of your choice).

5. Place on baking try and put in the oven for 25 minutes until golden brown. After designated time take pastry out of the oven and move to plate to serve. Cut into slices and serve with a scoop of ice-cream and dust with icing sugar (optional).
